Fibre optic
lighting is a way of carrying light from a lightsource
to a required location without generating heat.
Colours and special effects can also be achieved
that would otherwise be impossible using conventional
lighting. As this technology is totally safe and
extremely flexible, a whole new world of lighting
possibility is available to the domestic market.
Lightsource
The lightsource emits the
light and channels it down the fibres, as well
as controlling the colour options. It is the only
part of the Optic lighting™ kit that contains
any electricity. Supplied with 2 household plugs
(1 to control on/off, 1 to control colour change
on/off), it operates using a 100W Tungsten Halogen
lamp that lasts up to 2,000 hours. The lightsource
is supplied with an outdoor weather shield that
can be used to mount the lightsource externally.
This is the only part of the system that requires
any maintenance (ie. to change the lamp).
Fibres
Each kit comes complete with a fixed
length of 21 metres of fibre cable that can be
cut into a maximum number of 7 sections of varying
lengths to suit your individual application (eg.
1 x 6m, 3 x 3m, 3 x 2m OR 1 x 5m, 2x 4m, 2 x 3m,1
x 2m etc). Each fibre cable carries the light
from the light source and emits it at the end
point. The fibre cable is extremely safe as it
carries no electricity.
Fittings
Supplied in the kit are 7 small,
chrome adjustable fittings that have been designed
to be installed in ceilings, to project light
in humid and damp environments. The ball and socket
mechanism allows universal movement giving you
the flexibility to mount the fittings in a sloped
ceiling. A chrome finish ensures durability and
matches most modern bathroom fixtures and fittings.
A lens within the fitting allows you to adjust
the beam angle of the light given out, simply
by moving the fibre in/out of the fitting.
Three
Step Installation Overview
01
Step One
Decide on the relative positions of the lightsource
and fittings, measuring the length of fibre required
to run from the lightsource to each fitting location
(ensuring that the total length does not exceed
21 metres). Cut the fibres to the lengths required.
02
Step Two
Strip the black PVC outer off the ends of the fibre
closest to the lightsource and clamp all the fibres
together in the common end. Fix the common end into
the lightsource.
03
Step Three
Drill holes in the ceiling and push the fibre through
the holes into the fittings. Pull the springs back,
and snap into the ceiling. Adjust the direction
of the beam, as required.
You
will need: Cable snips, Stanley knife,
Screwdriver, Drill.
Requirements:
1 x 240V electrical supply. The lightsource
comes fitted with one household plug.
Important
to note: For even illumination, keep
fibre lengths below 10m. NEVER MOUNT THE LIGHTSOURCE
UNDERWATER.
