Fibre optic
lighting is a way of carrying light from a lightsource
to a required location without generating heat.
Colours and special effects can also be achieved
that would otherwise be impossible using conventional
lighting. As this technology is totally safe and
extremely flexible, a whole new world of lighting
possibility is available to the domestic market.
Lightsource
The lightsource emits the
light and channels it down the fibres, as well
as controlling the colour options. It is the only
part of the Optic Lighting™ kit that contains
any electricity. Supplied with a household plug,
it operates using a 35W Tungsten Halogen lamp
that lasts up to 2,000 hours. The lightsource
is the only part of the system that requires
any maintenance (ie. to change the lamp).
Fibres
Each kit comes complete with a fixed
length of 18 metres of fibre cable that can be
cut into a number of lengths to suit your individual
application. Each cable carries light from the
lightsource and emits it at the end point. The
black cable contains 25 fibre strands which can
be separated and used individually to produce
a starry effect.
End
Caps
Supplied in the kit are 225 plastic
caps which can be used to secure the fibre strands
into position. The caps are made of clear plastic
and have a counter sunk head for a flush finish.
The caps can be used to secure fibre in either
ceiling or decking.
Three
Step Installation Overview
01
Step One
Decide on the relative positions of the light source
and fittings, measuring the length of fibre required
from the light source to each fitting location (ensuring
that the total length does not exceed 18 metres).
Cut the fibres to the lengths required.
02
Step Two
Strip the black PVC outer off the ends of the fibre
closest to the lightsource and clamp all the fibres
together in the common end. Fix the common end into
the lightsource.
03
Step Three
Drill holes in the ceiling or floor (approximately
10 – 15 holes per square metre), push the
fibre through the holes and secure the plastic caps.
Push caps back into the ceiling or floor until flush.
You
will need: Cable snips, Stanley knife,
Screwdriver, Drill.
Requirements:
1 x 240V electrical supply. The lightsource
comes fitted with one household plug.
Important
to note: For even illumination, keep
fibre lengths below 10m. NEVER MOUNT THE LIGHTSOURCE
UNDERWATER.
